The aim of Poniesonline is to use your children’s love of horses and ponies and their desire to learn about them to enhance their general learning abilities.  To equip them with the skills they need to succeed at school and university.

Research shows that we learn best when study skills are embedded into a course of study - not shunted onto one or taught alone.  Poniesonline does this.

Poniesonline is aimed at children who are just starting to learn to ride.  It covers the basics of riding and handling ponies safely and builds on this month by month.

Information for Parents

Poniesonline introduces the following study skills:

Organisation in study

Simple research

Active reading - students are asked to make up their own questions before reading the text.  This ‘primes’ the brain to scan for the answers and so processes the information more deeply.

Comprehension, followed by quizzes to test understanding.

Observational skills - students are encouraged to complete ‘pony watching’ tables.

Language skills - students are encouraged to record all new vocabulary that they find on the site.

Attention span - as the optimum attention span for learning is 20 minutes, students are reminded to take frequent brakes.

.

Ergonomics - not exactly a study skill, but an important factor to consider if your child is to spend a considerable amount of time in front of a computer.

Intra-personal understanding - a series of questionnaires to help students  develop an understanding of self.
